Statement from the CEO (October 7, 2023)

Dear Community,

I want to bring your attention to the recent events during the early hours of Shabbat morning. Affiliated with Hamas and Islamic Jihad, terrorists infiltrated Israel, resulting in a tragic loss of lives, including innocent civilians of all ages. Alongside this, over 3000 rockets were launched into communities in southern and central Israel and a beginning of hostile activities in Northern Israel as well.
At this moment, Israel is grappling with the harsh reality of war, and many lives hang in the balance.

This is an incredibly painful and trying time for all of us. Many of our community members have loved ones, friends, and colleagues in Israel, and our concerns for their well-being are deep and heartfelt. The bonds of kinship with those affected weigh heavily on our hearts, and our foremost wish is for their safety. For those of us who have yearned for a peaceful resolution to this conflict, today is indeed a somber day.

I want to reassure you that, as of now, there are no specific local threats. Our Community Director of Security has been in contact with local law enforcement, who have affirmed this. As a precautionary measure, both the Vancouver Police Department and RCMP will be increasing patrols around synagogues and other Jewish community institutions. They are closely monitoring the situation and will keep us informed of any changes. We are deeply grateful for their collaboration and vigilance.

As events continue to unfold, we will ensure to keep you informed. Meanwhile, our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by these devastating events, both in Israel and within our local community.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Keselman, MN, DHA, CHE, RN
Chief Executive Officer
