February is Recreation Therapy Month! Recreation Therapy is a person-centered healthcare profession that employs evidence-based leisure and recreation interventions focused on maintaining social, physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual functioning and overall quality of life. Recreation Therapists and Assistants focus on Residents’ strengths, interests and needs, while working collaboratively with the inter-professional team and the Residents themselves to asses, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions that will help Residents maintain their level of functioning, increase social connections and community involvement, as well as achieve their wellness goals.   

WEEK 1: Creative Expression
Creative Expression – Creative Expression is a mixed media arts program that brings Residents together to collaborate on art installations often related to Jewish Holidays.
The Goals and objectives of Creative Expression include:
– Increase concentration and memory
– Increase emotional Expression
– Increase fine motor skills
– Increase enjoyment and happiness
– Increase connectivity with others
– Increase feelings of accomplishment
