Long Term Care
LEVELS OF CARE
Louis Brier Home and Hospital is part of the Dr. Irving & Phyliss Snider Campus for Jewish Seniors, centrally located in Oakridge in the heart of Vancouver’s Jewish community. Our campus of care is located within a short stroll of the Jewish Community Centre, Oakridge Shopping Centre, VanDusen Botanical Gardens, and the shops of Kerrisdale, to name just a few nearby attractions.
At the Heart of What Matters to You
Louis Brier is very much a community within a community, and we strive to give our residents as much choice as possible over matters affecting your day-to-day happiness and fulfillment. Also located on campus is the Weinberg Residence; together, our facilities offer several options for care and provide the comfort of familiar surroundings. This continuity of care is highly desirable, as it enables you to age in place on one campus.
Continuity of Care
Many of our residents come to us from the Weinberg Residence when their care needs surpass what is available through Assisted Living. At that time, residents can either choose to pay privately for Weinberg Multi-Level care, or they can be assessed through the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority for publicly funded residence at Louis Brier Home and Hospital. Our staff will help you liaise with Vancouver Coastal Health Priority Access if you wish to make Louis Brier Home your home. The Louis Brier Home & Hospital provides 24-hour nursing services for residents who require personal assistance or full nursing support. In addition, we provide a full range of rehabilitation and recreational therapies, social services, and dietary supervision. Louis Brier also has a separate unit for those residents living with moderate to severe dementia.
Louis Brier provides 24-hour nursing and personal care to all residents; the amount and type of daily care provided to residents differs based on the level of care needed.
Intermediate Care
Provides a private room and three kosher meals per day plus snacks. 24-hour nursing coverage is provided as well as medication management and assistance with some personal care. Residents in Intermediate Care are still mobile and able to get to activities and the dining room for meals.
Extended Care
Provides a higher level of care with more nursing staff to assist residents. In addition to the support provided in Intermediate Care, residents in Extended Care also get help with all personal care, mobility, and nutrition. Extended care has both private and semi-private rooms.
Special Care Unit
Our small 17 bed Special Care Unit is for those residents with advanced dementias who need a smaller, more intimate environment that provides safety and security for those who are no longer able to navigate a complex environment.
